Electricity in rural Areas
According to the highlights of the Windhoek municipal council of the 14th of April 2022 ,Cllr Sade Gawanas Major of Windhoek, and her delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Erastus Uutoni ,Minister of Urban and Rural Development,on the (14 April 2022 )Cllr Gawanas expressed gratitude for the council’s ministerial support throughout the years ,including financial assistance in electrifying some portions of the informal settlements and the ongoing affordable housing project in partnership with other stakeholders such as Khomas Regional council and Namibia Housing Enterprise .
Major Gawanas also briefed the Minister on a number of developmental challenges affecting the council ability to provide required municipal services in the face of socio-economic challenges such as high unemployment rates among residents. Unoccupied houses constructed under the National .Mass Housing project at Otjomuise Extention 10 ,unpaid Covid-19 free water supplied to the municipal budget ,and the substantial ingrate investments,to name a few were some of the challenges highlighted.
Minister Uutoni commended the leadership of the council for the fruitful deliberations and its efforts to keep the city running despite the difficulties.He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working with local authorities and finding amicable solutions to improve service delivery.
