Vandalism of communal taps in informal settlements
According to the city of Windhoek they have noticed the abuse and wastage of the free water supplied to the communities in our informal settlements.The community has been increasing in the number of vandalized communal taps in informal settlements since they are deactivated to discharge free water to residents in the face of Covid-19.
Our public participation team ,supported by community Development committee (CDC) members ,held meetings this week in Windhoek’s Moses Garoab and Samora Marchel constituencies to educate residents on how to use water wisely at the communal taps .The meetings is on important intervention to install a batter understanding of importance if saving water “water is being watered ,especially in the informal settlements,and we need to change this behavior in our community “ a CDC member ,emphasized during the meeting .
Residents were given useful tips on how to save water at communal taps eg Not to allow children to collect water because they tend to waste water ,Not to wash cars at communal taps ,Not to do laundry or take baths at communal taps .
Community members are encouraged to take ownership of these taps and stop this destructive practice immediately.Sterns action will be taken against anyone found vandalizing communal taps .Community member are encouraged to contact our customer contact centre on 061-29303777 if they see anyone damaging communal taps or the illegal use of water .
